BOOK CLUB PICK #1

Homecoming: Overcome Fear and Trauma to Reclaim Your Whole, Authentic Self
by Dr. Thema Bryant

Read together May 1 – June 26, 2026

ABOUT THE BOOK

Dr. Thema Bryant wrote Homecoming for every woman who has been away from some version of herself. Maybe for a long time. Maybe so long she forgot that woman existed.

The book moves through the internal and external signs of disconnection, then into the work of reclaiming what was lost — reparenting yourself, building confidence, tending your spiritual practices, and recovering from the roadblocks that stand between you and your whole, authentic self.

It is not a comfortable read. It was never meant to be. It is a necessary one.

WHY WE CHOSE IT

I chose this book because I believe every woman in our sisterhood has been carrying something she was never meant to carry.

Dr. Thema is a licensed psychologist and an ordained minister. She has done this work herself, and she writes from that place. She names the wound without shame — and then she shows us how to tend it.

Our sisters read this book over eight weeks. They were honest. They were brave. They held space for each other in ways that still move me. And then on June 26, Dr. Thema walked into our Summer Meetup as our keynote speaker — and we were ready for every word she brought.

That is what this Book Club is for.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

(These are the questions our sisters journeyed through)

1.  What does homecoming mean for you right now? What part of yourself have you drifted away from — and what has been keeping you away?

2.  What story have you been telling yourself that has kept you from yourself? Name the lie.

3.  What wound in you has been waiting for permission to heal? Where is God asking you to tend the soil?

5.  Outside of being a mom, wife, daughter, minister, or professional — who are YOU?

6.  What would your life look like if you permitted yourself to be truly, unapologetically joyful?

7.  What childhood wound has been quietly running the show in your adult life?

4.  What are you still carrying that God has been asking you to put down?

8.  What has changed in you over these eight weeks? This is your testimony.
